Texas Rangers at Milwaukee Brewers MLB Pick – August 11th

I didn’t wager on the New York Mets yesterdayand I am going to betting on the Mets today, but I wished to take a few moments to recognize exactly what this team is performing at the moment. After the Mets created the blockbuster move to get starting pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays just before the July 31st trade deadline, then the first backlash was fierce. The pundits and fans had been scratching their heads, and on paper, the move simply didn’t make a great deal of sense.
The Mets were seemingly out of playoff contention and have been supposed to be shopping some of their finest men including Eddie Diaz along with Noah Syndergaard. Instead, they kept all of their very best men and brought in Stroman from Toronto, in a desperate bid to get back into the playoff picture. Personally, I saw it among the more vexing moves of the last decade and laughed and thought to myself, as typical Mets movement, fully assuming it would blow up in their face like so many transactions have before.
And then something changed to the Mets. They caught fire. And all the sudden this group has to be emphasized from the National League. The Mets have reeled off fifteen wins in their last sixteen games and are back on the perfect side of .500 and therefore so are just a half of a match of the second NL wild card. And it is not merely that they’re winning, it’s how they are winning. It is a different hero every night for all these miracle Mets. It seems that every night they get to a position where they are going to lose and find a means to stage a triumphant comeback.
The number on New York now is too large to profitably back them as they are placing -200 with expert Jacob deGrom on the mound. But make sure to keep your attention on this group. Baseball is a humorous game, and so much of it is based around endings. For those who have it, then things just appear to break up your own way. When you don’t, sometimes you can’t get a win. At this time, the Mets surely have it. For the current pick, we’ll visit Milwaukee where the Brewers are seeking to sweep against up the Texas Rangers.
The Texas Rangers are hoping to avoid getting trapped. The Rangers have lost four straight matches, two of those to the Brewers in this series, along with their season is rapidly winding to a close. While Texas didn’t maintain the fire sale that many anticipated at the trade deadline, but they also did not go out and acquire much talent, and the Rangers are currently nine matches back of the second wild card at the American League.
For the Brewers, they did a wonderful job of incorporating several competent arms for their team as they added guys like Drew Pomeranz, Jake Faria, Ray Black, along with tonight’s starter Jordan Lyles. Along with the motions are starting to truly provide this squad a boost since they have won five straight matches and are now just a game and a half back of the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central Division race.
Starting now for the Brewers is Jordan Lyles (7-7 4.97 ERA), also for the Rangers, it is Mike Minor (10-6 3.06 ERA). The game total over-under is placed in runs. The Brewers are -126 favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 AM PST from Miller Park in Milwaukee.
On occasion a trade simply doesn’t seem to produce a good deal of sense when it’s initially made. This was the case with the Mets and Marcus Stroman, and that was also the case when the Brewers caused beginning pitcher Jordan Lyles. Lyles was struggling through a poor year before being transferred. In his previous four starts prior to getting traded, Lyles had gotten smashed for twenty five runs in just seventeen innings worked. I really don’t know off hand what ERA which adds around, but it is really high. And you have to rememberthis man was pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, in exactly the same division as the Brewers.
So, it was tough to expect the guy to be better in Milwaukee as he had been in Pittsburgh. But he sure has figured things out so much in Milwaukee! In his two begins with his new team, he has pitched a joint ten innings and has allowed just two earned runsand also the Brewers won both games. Sometimes a change of scenery from a last-place team out of contention to a team directly in the mix of a pennant race is all it takes to find a man to turn matters around.
Mike Minor is enduring through the specific opposite of what Jordan Lyles is going through because most people expected him to get traded to a contender, and he ended up remaining in Texas. Minor was a popular trade goal for several competing groups, but a deal couldn’t be made, and here he’s now finishing his season out with a Rangers team going .
Plus it looked like the strain of possibly getting traded was wearing on Minor because he had been awful in July. Going into July, Minor was 8-4 with a 2.40 ERA and has been chosen to the Al All-Star team. But during the month leading up to the trade deadline, he had been just 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA in five starts, and the Rangers went 1-4 in those five matches. Those struggles may have been kept Minor in Texas as his value plummeted at the wrong time. Minor’s first post-trade deadline begin proved to be a good one as he pitched seven shutout innings from the Cleveland Indians.
This is an intriguing game. A month before, I would have loved financing Minor getting dog money. However he’s really struggled since then, and I am not confident he can go in and shut down a good hitting team like the Brewers. When you look at this Texas lineup, then they simply aren’t the same without Joey Gallo about the field.
Together with Gallo sidelined with injury, this team is 28th in the majors in runs scored in the month of August. They’re scoring just more than three runs on a game, and they’re hitting an abysmal .206 for a team. While I am not really that confident that Lyles can keep his good effects, I know that the Brewers won’t be leaving him into the match all that long anyway as they love to turn matters over to their bullpen in any indication of distress.
I believe Minor gets roughed up some, and the Brewers with a committee of Lyles and their bullpen, find a way to take advantage of this slumping Rangers lineup and complete the sweep. I spoke about endings, and at the moment, the Brewers have it, and the Rangers do not. And I am going to make the most of these trends and fire the Brewers today. Give me the Milwaukee Brewers now as home favorites in match three from Miller Park in -126!
