Mansfield picked up their first home win of their League Two effort.
The home side were away in their best but secured the win with goals in either half from Danny Rose and also Matt Preston.
The visitors, who are to get an off point this season, began with Abo Eisa shooting over after 12 minutes. Seven minutes later the same player was booked after diving to try to win a punishment.
Following Jordan Clarke gave the ball away scunthorpe goalkeeper Rory Watson beat a Nicky Maynard effort in the 22nd minute away.
Preston slotted home CJ Hamilton’s cross at the back post to give Mansfield the lead two minutes after.
Jamie Proctor nearly twenty four minutes when he fired inches wide from a free-kick. However, Rose doubled the lead nine minutes into the second half.
As Iron failed to get back in the game proctor headed narrowly off target in the 74th minute.
