Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech created two penalty saves to give his group a win against Swindon Wildcats 2.
The 37-year-old a technical adviser at Chelsea, saved last efforts and Swindons initial and won man of the match at the Guildford Spectrum.
Phoenix trailed but an equaliser out of Taylor Wootton took the match into overtime.
That finished goalless and contributed to a shoot-out in which Cech made the crucial saves.
Phoenix and 2 play in National Ice Hockey League South.
