At Murang’a Teachers Training College (TTC), we recognize that a clean and sustainable environment is vital not only for human health but also for quality education. As an institution charged with training future educators, we believe in modelling environmental responsibility both in principle and in practice.

Environmental Conservation Initiatives

Over the past academic year, the college has undertaken several initiatives to promote environmental awareness and action among students and staff:

  1. Tree Planting Campaigns: In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and local NGOs, our Environmental Club has planted over 2,000 indigenous trees within the college compound and surrounding community. These trees help conserve biodiversity, reduce soil erosion, and contribute to Kenya’s national reforestation goals.
  2. Clean-Up Drives: Every term, students from various departments participate in scheduled clean-up exercises across the campus and nearby market areas. These activities encourage civic responsibility and hygiene consciousness.
  3. Waste Management: The college has introduced waste separation bins to encourage recycling of plastics and proper disposal of biodegradable and hazardous waste. Plans are underway to establish a composting site for organic waste generated from the college cafeteria.

Environmental Education

Environmental conservation has been integrated into our co-curricular and academic activities:

  • Through seminars and debates, students are sensitized on issues such as climate change, water conservation, and sustainable agriculture.
  • Student-teachers are encouraged to incorporate environmental themes into their teaching practice, promoting green thinking in primary school learners.

Community Engagement

Our commitment extends beyond the college gates. Murang’a TTC regularly partners with:

  • Local primary schools in school greening projects
  • County Government officials in environmental awareness days, including World Environment Day and Clean Up Kenya campaigns

Looking Ahead

We envision becoming a green campus, with energy-efficient lighting, water harvesting systems, and a paper reduction policy in administration. Our long-term goal is to establish an Environmental Resource Centre to support research and innovation in sustainable practices.

A healthy environment creates a healthy mind. Let us protect what nurtures us.” – Principal, Murang’a TTC
